About the Artist

Hi, I’m Kate — a Sydney-based artist, mum of two, and lover of all things colourful and playful.
Painting, for me, is like meditation — taking a breath, a little bit of fun in a far too serious world. It’s a break from the everyday. A chance to step away from the busyness of life and just play — with colour, with ideas, with whatever catches my eye. It brings a sense of calm and lightness, and that’s something I try to carry through into my work. I want my pieces to feel easy to live with — something that adds a bit of joy and softness to a space without trying too hard.
I paint still lifes, florals, and playful pieces for kids, often inspired by simple things — flowers on the table, favourite objects, animals, or small everyday moments. I’ve always loved drawing and painting, and in my twenties I trained and became an art teacher. As life got busier, my own art slowly took a back seat. In my mid-thirties, I became a mum — twice in 18 months — and during the pandemic found myself with two little ones under three. I really craved a quiet space that was just mine, so I started painting again as a way to unwind and bring some life into our home, especially in the kids’ ever-changing rooms. I began with playful animals and little creatures, and before long, friends and family were asking for commissions — and that’s how this small business began.
Along the way, I’ve also formally studied Fine Arts and Education at the University of Newcastle, and later Illustration and Drawing with the Open College of Art and Design. I’ve exhibited at Watt Space Gallery and locally around Sydney, and my work has been featured in Artist Closeup Magazine and The Torch, as well as being selected as a finalist in the Revival Emerging Artist Art Prize.
